The final draft has been sent for editing and proof reading.

The cover is being designed as we speak.

I’m stressing about how best to launch it of course.

And the synopsis that I hope to carry on the back of the book has been updated on the Fairy Dance page so make sure to check it out.

In all, I’m told that the book should be ready by the 31st of August. I’m very excited as you can imagine.

The Grandmother Chronicles: She’s Back!

May 28, 2007 at 9:28 am (Uncategorized)

For those of you who’ve followed the grandmother chronicles in the past, you would know that this is a section dedicated to my darling grandma who’s one fun loving gal who never gets old.

The last time we discussed her she was off to Venice once again to be with my aunt. This weekend she returned to Colombo and as usual, she brought with her a little bit of fun.

If putting salt in her tea and getting into complete strangers’ cars by mistake was not enough, this time she arrives without her luggage. Apparently during one of her transit flights, it had not been transfered into the right port even though my cousin interlinked it all the way to Colombo.

So Nan has to drive all the way back to the airport today to pick the stuff up and she was really upset about it cause she’d brought little bits of things for all of us. But I heard she put up a good fight about it at the airport. He he he.

It’s good to have her back and I’m really looking forward to some wild adventures once again.

Hope the weekend was good to everyone, certainly wasn’t all that awesome with me, I’m just glad to be back at work. Anyways, have a good one ahead of you and don’t forget the Blue Moon on Thursday.

Mr. Spock

May 25, 2007 at 3:22 pm (Uncategorized)

Leonard Nimoy, the man behind the Vulcan who gave us the very memorable: “live long and prosper” on Star Trek many, many years ago.

spock1.jpg

Although he may not have made you laugh, this is one character that certainly held your interest. Probaby because he was one of those types that were completely out of the ordinary, oh and of course the whole pointy ears thing.

Spock was the character that Trek fans around the world held closes to themselves even more than they did Captain Kirk.

spock2.jpg

Spock’s seriousness epitomized Vulcan behaviour as we would later find out through other Vulcan characters on other Star Treks, such as Tuvok from Voyager. You wanted to slap him at times for his lack of emotion but if that’s what the character was meant to do, he did it to perfection.

The black lullaby remembers Mr. Spock, the tenth of ten extremely memorable TV Characters who’ve been celebrated on TV Characters week.

Hope you enjoyed all of them.

Sophia Petrillo

May 25, 2007 at 1:36 pm (Uncategorized)

In 1985 we welcomed through our TVs into our homes, four extraordinary women who were known as the Golden Girls with their ever famous theme song ‘Thank you for Being a Friend’. As much as all four of them had character, the one to truly stand out of the crowd was Estelle Getty’s portrayal of Sophia Petrillo.

sophia-3.jpg
She was Italian to the last grey hair and she never let down the opportunity to make a snide remark at her daughter Dorothy or her friends Rose and Blanche.

sophia-2.gif
Sophia was as energetic as energetic could be and she would always recall her days in Siccili when Mousolini would torture people for his personal pleasure. Had it been up to her, she would have implemented those very methods into the lives of the people in sunny Miami.

sophia-1.jpg
Sophia Petrillo is the ninth of ten TV characters that are being recognized this week on the black lullaby for their spunk, wit, charm and the memories they’ve left behind.

You & I

May 24, 2007 at 6:41 pm (Uncategorized)

You asked me how long it had been

Since I had feelings for you

I said I didn’t know, I lied

I remember the day, the time and the place

That my heart started singing your name

I asked if we could still be friends

Even after all was said and done

You said yes, you lied

You could never go back to the time

That we laughed so carelessly

You asked if I would be alright

When you walked out of my life

I said I would be, I lied

Would I ever be alright without you in my life?

How could you even ask?

I asked if we could meet for one last time

To mend what was wrong and try to move on

You said we could, you lied

You turned your back on me

And left me alone to drown in my tears

You said that people change

That they never stay the same

True

You changed so fast

And I changed painfully slower

You’ve realized it’s not good

I said that I’d always love you

That my soul would call out to you alone

True

I’ve tried to erase you

To free myself of these feelings for you

I’ve realized it’s not possible

You and I and the things we’ve said and done

We’ve lost to each other and still we’ve won

We’ve made love knowing it was wrong

We’ve taught each others’ hearts to long

And still, we’re not sure where we belong

Rene Artois

May 24, 2007 at 2:27 pm (Uncategorized)

It is him… Rene, the man who made Allo Allo a series worth watching. Played by British actor Gordon Kaye, Rene stole the heart of every young female character on the show, and sometimes, even the male ones

rene.jpg

Rene had a way with the ladies although he could never figure out why he couldn’t leave his wife Edith. He was surrounded by controversies and conspiracies that threatened to destroy him one way or the other but he always managed to weasel his way out of every last problem.

rene-2.jpg
He was a character to whom the writers gave a very creative mind. He did what had to be done to evade unwanted problems but found that every smart move he made landed him in another stupid one that could have been avoided only if he had thought it through.

Above all else, he was a character that made us laugh with his scandalous affairs, secret hiding places and not-so pleasant dialogues he had with his mother-in-law.

Piper Halliwell

May 24, 2007 at 10:29 am (Uncategorized)

The TV show I fell in love with when it first came out in 1998 was Charmed. Out of all four sisters that we spent time with on the show, the one with the most understated approach was Piper played by Holly Marie Combs.

piper.jpg
She was always the middle sister who kept firm ground between her other two siblings but with the death of Prue she takes on the role of the older sister and she wasn’t fond of it.

Throughout the 8 seasons of Charmed Piper was the only sister who was grounded and in control. Her modesty and brutal honesty was portrayed well with a touch of sarcasm and a whole lot of cynicism that made her all the more lovable, not forgetting her awesome powers to stop time and blow things up.

piper-2.jpg
What made this character interesting to watch was her ability to play every aspect of herself to a T. From wife to mother, from sister to daughter, from serious counselor to hip club owner, from ultra sensitive woman to kick-ass witch, she did it all.

piper-3.jpg
Here she is today folks, Piper Halliwell, the seventh of ten remarkable TV Characters that are being honored this week on the black lullaby.

Jesse Katsopolis aka Uncle Jesse

May 23, 2007 at 2:28 pm (Uncategorized)

Remember Full House? If you do then you would recall John Stamos playing the hunky Uncle Jesse who comes over to take care of nieces and eventually ends up having a family of his own.

jess.jpg

Jesse was different because during that time he changes perceptions on the whole Uncle role. Where other uncles were more involved with the adults of the show, Jesse made Full House popular through giving the Uncle image a muchly welcome uplift.

jesse.jpg

For starters he was young, and having an Uncle at that age can be marvelous for a group of three nieces who think that their dad can never get through to them.

Together with changing the image of the TV uncle he also changed the sex-symbol attitude that people used to have of TV characters. Meaning he was sexy, but still never let his character be exploited as the kind of man who was after a short skirt just because he could have one, his first priority was his nieces and he was there for them whenever they needed him.

There you have him, Jesse Katsopolis, the sixth of ten TV Characters that are being honored this week on the black lullaby.

Crucify Me but don’t Fuck my Bitch!

May 23, 2007 at 1:25 pm (Uncategorized)

Isn’t it amazing how you have to always scream something out to get someone’s attention? And the way this world has been shaped today, you won’t be able to do it any other way.

Wives have to stay in shape and look like they just dropped out of the playboy mansion to keep their husbands from straying.

A man has to cry his eyeballs out for someone else to believe that he has emotions and is not just another male-chauvenist.

People have to die for us to realize how precious life is.

There are so many things that are so obviously portrayed to us in hopes that we get the message simply. But we can never get through to people unless we do something drastic to get their attention.

In the old days boys would send letters to the girl’s parents asking for her hand in marriage. Nowadays parents don’t even know that their children are in love until they come home one day either with a ring on their finger or 3 months pregnant.

What’s happened to us? Why have we become so preoccupied? Have things really changed so much?

When you slit your wrists over a lover, or go for days without eating because your dog passed away or start drinking because your parents don’t understand you – you are called stupid and immature. But do the people who call you these things realize that sometimes that’s what it takes to get through to someone? Do they know that sometimes there’s no other way to communicate what you’re feeling because you’ve already tried the 3,400,765 other ways of doing it?

Why do we have to shout so loud to make ourselves heard? Why do we need to sink so low to show someone we mean business? Why do we need to try so hard to prove that we’re worth something? Why do we need to cry so horribly to express our love for someone?

It takes a controversy to hold an interest and a little bit of filth to catch the gaze of the wondering eye.

Do I have your attention? Why? Because of the title of this post?

Interesting, ain’t it?

Mr. Ed

May 23, 2007 at 10:03 am (Uncategorized)

The cynical horse that who always had a witty comeback, the role of Mr. Ed was played by a palomino named Bamboo Harvest and the voice of Mr. Ed was played by Allan “Rocky” Lane.

ed-head.gif

While Ed did have a lot of friends, he shared his closest bonds with Wilbur, who kept him safely in his garage and Wilbur’s wife who spent lots of time with Ed getting Wilbur out of trouble.

ed-chess.jpg

This was a character that anyone could easily fall in love with because come on… It was a HORSE, WHO SPOKE!!!

I probably wasn’t even born when Mr. Ed started off but I do remember watching re-runs of it every Tuesday night at 7.30 on ITN during the late 80’s.

mr-ed.jpg

If you think back to this particular show, you’ll find that you won’t be able to recall the human characters as much but Ed comes out as one of the best memories we’ll ever have. Here he is folks, the fifth of ten great TV Characters that are being honored this week on the black lullaby.
