Steve Urkel
Full name: Steven Quincy Urkel, a character that we all loved to laugh at essayed by Jaleel White on the ever famous sitcom Family Matters that ran for nine consecutive seasons.

Steve was known for his dry humor and nerdy attitude that always gave him a hard time with the family, that he wasn’t even a part of. During his time on the show from 1989 to 1998, Steve managed to make even the sourest person smile with his crazy ideas and his never ending obsession with Laura.

If you don’t remember Steve for anything else then you have to remember for his tagline “DID I DO THAT???” which was usually followed by a good bashing from someone.
I remember one Christmas episode in particular where Laura would not accept a gift from Steve and she soon had a bump on the head taking her into a dream sequence where Steve was the cool dude and she was the nerd. I think that was when the world of sitcom viewers got their first view of what Jaleel White was like in real life.
But still they didn’t love that version of Steve as much as they did the dork who would make huge mistakes and unfixable blunders, all out of the goodness of his heart.

Steve Urkel is the second of ten Television Characters that the black lullaby honors this week. Tune in tomorrow for two more.

“Steve? My name is Stephan”.
That scene gave nerds the world over, including yours truly, hope.
